Donor Profile: Hazel Cramer

When Hazel Cramer was a young woman growing up in the Midwest, she wanted to go to college. But, because she was supporting herself and therefore could not go to school full time, she was told no. That experience was one of the reasons Ms. Cramer chose to include a gift to Sacramento State in her will. "They wouldn't let me in because I had to work," she says. "I understand that students today often have obstacles that get in the way of completing their education."

Ms. Cramer never did earn her degree, but the former Caltrans systems analyst has been a long-time advocate of the University. She is a charter member of the Renaissance Society, Sacramento State's learning-in-retirement program and is a member of the Legacy Circle through her decision to include the University in her estate plan. Both organizations offer opportunities for supporters to visit the campus for cultural and educational events, such as lectures and art exhibits.

In addition to her bequest, Ms. Cramer has committed nearly a million dollars to student scholarships.
